Read Pres. and Mrs. Obama's Favorite books and our favorite books by them

In celebration of Inauguration Day today we thought we would highlight the fact that both the president and first lady are published authors.

Let's start with Michelle Obama's "American Grown".  As a trendsetting first lady we love that a trend she is pushing is home grown, organic and healthy eating.  It's a message everyone can agree on.  "American Grown" features gardening tips and recipes for using the fruits of your labor.
There is also a kids book called "First Garden the White House Garden and How It Grew", if you are looking for a gift for the garden loving child.

As for what is on Michelle's nightstand we understand she likes to read with her daughters.  One of the books they have read this year is "Life of Pi", maybe in anticipation of seeing the big screen version in the White House theater.

President Obama has written two best sellers, "Audacity of Hope" and "Dreams of My Father".  Both autobiographical in nature.  But I believe his best work is the book he wrote for his Daughters, "Of Thee I Sing: A Letter to My Daughters".  He sings the praises of thirteen unique Americans who have lived inspired lives, including artist Georgia O'Keefe, athlete, Jackie Robinson, and president, George Washington.  This is a wonderful gift to share with the children in your life.

As for his reading list President Obama is a known avid reader.  What was on his nightstand last week is probably already finished and the next book begun.  However we have some of his known favorites to highlight here: Ernest Hemingway's "For Whom the Bell Tolls", Toni Morrison's "Song of Solomon", John Steinbeck's "In Dubious Battle", Taylor Branch "Parting the Waters" just to name a few.
