Flowers a no-no at some hospitals

By Dr. Harvey B Simon – from newsday.com/health

Some hospitals have a policy against bedside flowers.  What’s behind this policy, and is it reasonable?  The main worry is infection.  Flowers harbor bacteria, and so does the water in a vase. Some hospitalized patients are particularly vulnerable to these bacteria.  Fresh flowers are typically excluded from the rooms of patients with impaired immune systems: cancer chemotherapy patients are a prime example.  You should check with a hospital before you send or bring any fresh flowers.
As alternatives to flowers we offer many wonderful gift baskets that will brighten any patients day.
Our Boredom Buster is the perfect get well gift for any adult.  It includes four different puzzle books so there is something everyone can enjoy!
The Get Well Survival Kit is another great gift for a hospital patient.  It includes your choice of paperback book, a puzzle book and some light snacks.
Laughter is the Best Medicine Care Package is a great way to brighten someone's day.

Book Bouquet has many great get well gift ideas for shipping to homes, hospitals, nursing homes and rehabilitation centers.  Click Here to see the entire get well gifts line.

  1. I love Geraldine Brooks. Caleb's Crossing. People of the Book. She is a journalist first and foremost, so her writing (even though the above mentioned books are fiction) is crisp - and is very well researched.

  2. Love the concept of a book bouquet - would much prefer it to flowers as a gift. But how do you determine what books the recipient would enjoy if they aren't necessarily into puzzles? And what is the average price for a book bouquet?

  3. Love this concept - how much are book bouquets on average? And how do you determine what types of books your recipient would be interested in?

  4. Gifts range in price from $19.95 up to $149.95. Different gifts have different book choices. Some gifts offer a drop down list of paperback books to choose from. Other gifts have hardcover books. There is also a build your own basket page that lets you choose any book (in print) and we'll order it and create the gift you choose.
